Building Relationships: Insights from Obermayer Chair David Nasatir on the Practice of Law

Obermayer Chair David Nasatir was interviewed by The Legal Intelligencer on June 12, 2024, discussing the importance of relationship-building in the practice of law. Law firm leaders are increasingly focusing on fostering relationships within their communities as part of their business development efforts. 

David emphasized the benefits of community involvement in gaining greater access to officials. This includes co-chairing the Moving Montco Forward Commerce and Economic Development Advisory Committee, leading the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority team, and serving on Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s transition team as part of her 2026 Preparation Committee aimed at readying the city for the nation’s 250th birthday and the soccer World Cup.

“People want an attorney who they see as having relationships with an audience [of people who can help solve their problem] as opposed to someone who’s just cold calling,” he said.

David also noted that clients prefer working with attorneys who are committed to similar causes.

“Folks like to work with like-minded people,” he said. “If I’m involved with the Convention Center trying to promote the region and other similar business-minded people see that… they like that.”
