Matthew Olesh Discusses the Philadelphia Judicial Races in The Legal Intelligencer
Obermayer litigation partner Matt Olesh was quoted on January 20, 2023, in The Legal Intelligencer about the upcoming Philadelphia judicial races. Following a long Philadelphia tradition, the city’s 2023 election candidates will draw their ballot spots from a Horn & Hardart coffee can on March 15, 2023.
The article, titled “Merit vs. Luck: What It Takes to Stand Out as a Philadelphia Judicial Candidate,” discusses The Philadelphia Bar Association Judicial Commission’s outreach initiatives, reviewing capacity, and searches for answers if the association’s awareness campaigns, polling place volunteers, and a fleet of investigators can overtake the influence of a single coffee can.
Matt Olesh, who chairs the association’s political action committee, the Campaign for Qualified Judges (CQJ), shares that the CQJ is set to utilize a number of tactics it developed over the course of the last few election cycles, “including social media, direct mail and, for the first time since 2019, having people at the polls in-person to talk with voters and hand out information on the Commission’s ratings.”
“Our role is to break through the huge volume of information that will be circulating about the races for mayor and City Council, and to help inform voters about the judicial races and their importance,” said Matt.
