Melissa Atkins Weighs in on the ILA-USMX negotiations in Logistics Management

In the Logistics Management June 19, 2024 article titled “Labor lawyer assesses the current state of ILA-USMX negotiations,” Melissa Atkins, a labor and employment partner at Obermayer, shared her perspective on the currently-stalled labor negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Exchange (USMX), regarding their soon-to-expire labor agreement, with their current deal set to expire end of September, and related topics.

“AI and automation is a big concern across all industries, and that’s why they’re digging in, because they see the future. Everybody sees the future, and they’re trying to get a hold on it. And the way to get a hold on it is to put something in the contract. Because if it’s not in the contract and it’s just a policy, those can be changed,” said melissa.
