“I believe successful law practice requires both curiosity and creativity. Being curious about the facts and the law, and applying them creatively, are the central traits I bring to my legal work.”
Mac is an attorney in Obermayer’s Litigation Department, where he represents a diverse range of clients including financial institutions, healthcare providers, nonprofits, real estate developers, investors, and individuals. He handles cases involving commercial litigation, construction disputes, insurance matters, and professional liability.
While Mac is prepared to navigate legal disputes in court, he holds the belief that the best solutions often extend beyond traditional legal proceedings. He approaches each case with a holistic perspective, striving to help clients achieve their objectives with minimal cost and stress.
Before law school, Mac pursued a variety of interests. He wrote for a college newspaper, hosted a radio show, and engaged in creative writing across fiction, poetry, and long-form nonfiction. Additionally, he worked in politics, managing campaigns and fundraising for candidates. Through these experiences, Mac discovered his talent for helping people achieve their goals by sharing their stories.
Despite initially avoiding a legal career, Mac comes from a long line of Pittsburgh lawyers spanning back to the early 20th century. Eventually, he realized that practicing law provided the most effective avenue for him to assist others through storytelling.
Beyond his legal practice, Mac finds joy in cycling and recently discovered a passion for pickleball. As a dedicated father of three, he devotes much of his free time to his family. Mac also loves history, especially the medieval period and the history of Pittsburgh.
Mac has extensive experience representing clients in a variety of complex legal matters, including regulatory and administrative law, construction disputes, land use issues, oil and gas matters, nonprofit governance, fiduciary duties, negligence claims, intentional torts, and breaches of contract.
Throughout his career, Mac has handled diverse legal issues, such as police powers, regulated tariffs, compliance orders from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, third-party beneficiary disputes, judicial estoppel, veil piercing, participation theory, single enterprise theory, and other emerging areas of law.
He has appeared before numerous Pennsylvania state courts, including district magistrates, courts of common pleas, and appellate courts, as well as federal courts across multiple districts and bankruptcy courts. Mac has also represented clients before administrative agencies like the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, and Pennsylvania Office of Open Records.
Outside of his legal practice, Mac is actively involved in community organizations. He serves on the board of the 14th Ward Independent Democratic Club and the Brew House Association, an arts nonprofit. Additionally, he is engaged in his Reconstructionist synagogue, Dor Hadash.
