Matthew concentrates his practice exclusively on family law. He handles all aspects of negotiation and litigation in high-asset, complex domestic relations matters including divorce, equitable distribution, child custody, alimony/spousal support, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, protection from abuse, and all other related issues. Matthew also has experience in family law mediation and filing and acquisition of Protection from Abuse Orders.

Matthew is experienced in navigating the complexities of family law, ensuring that emotions are appropriately addressed while focusing on achieving favorable outcomes. With a commitment to separating emotional challenges from legal issues, he works diligently to help clients reach resolutions that align with their goals and priorities.

In his free time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and young children and playing racquet sports.

As a seasoned family law attorney, Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge to navigate the multifaceted aspects of family law cases, ensuring a comprehensive and strategic approach to address the intricacies involved in financial matters.

Matthew’s most notable cases include:

  • Litigating numerous complex divorce matters involving the formation, acquisition, or growth of a spouse’s business during the marriage and protecting the business entity from division pursuant to divorce;
  • Representing parties in custody cases involving parents and children with mental health challenges and psychological diagnoses;
  • Litigating a child and spousal support matter that addressed intricate executive compensation including bonuses, stock awards, deferred compensation, and perquisites.
  • Successfully litigating a high conflict child custody matters on behalf of LBGTQIA+ community members;

Prior to joining Obermayer, Matthew worked for boutique family law firms and clerked for the Honorable John F. DiSalle in the Washington County Court of Common Pleas.

During his time in law school, Matthew earned recognition for his dedication to pro bono legal service, receiving the Pro Bono Legal Service Award and the Outstanding Clinical Student Award. His passion for law extended beyond the classroom as he actively contributed to the legal community through his involvement in the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and his participation in the Civil and Family Justice Law Clinic.

In the community, Matthew has served on the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh branch of the Children’s Heart Foundation Congenital Heart Walk, the Mount Lebanon Platform Tennis Association, and the Southminster Child Care Center.

Prior to law school, Matthew distinguished himself at the University of Mary Washington, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He was a Captain of the Varsity Men’s Tennis and served as a Class President for two consecutive years, and later as a Student Body President. His academic achievements were recognized in a Cum Laude graduation.
