Mikell is an attorney in Obermayer’s Business & Finance Department, where he advises owners and investors on the purchase, sale, and lease of commercial and residential real estate. He handles transactions from inception to closing, including drafting transactional and ancillary documents, joint venture documents, and corporate resolutions.
Mikell’s passion for law was sparked by watching Law & Order, where he admired the attorneys’ professionalism and dedication to their clients. Combining his longstanding interests in business and real estate, a career in law felt like a natural fit.
Outside of work, Mikell enjoys playing the saxophone and staying active on the rugby field.
Mikell brings extensive experience representing owners and investors in the purchase, sale, and leasing of commercial properties. He has also worked with Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and trust companies on a wide range of structured finance transactions, including securitizations, debt restructuring, and warehouse facilities across various asset classes, such as CMBS loans, residential mortgages, credit card receivables, and automobile receivables.
Before joining Obermayer, Mikell was with a leading Delaware law firm, where he assisted clients in forming and administering Delaware Statutory Trusts for securitizations, debt restructuring, and multi-series mutual funds.
Mikell is an active member of the Affordable Housing Committee within the ABA Real Estate Finance Group.
He earned his law degree with honors from the American University Washington College of Law, where he was awarded the Frederic L. Ballard Scholarship (awarded by the National Association of Bond Lawyers to five law students nationwide with an interest in public finance). He also received the Jean-Marie Sylla, Jr. Legacy Award from the National Bar Association, a scholarship recognizing a law student with strong academic performance and a commitment to service. Additionally, Mikell was named an ABA Business Law Section Student Scholar.
