Victor Young Contributes to Groundbreaking of Rev. Leon H. Sullivan Community Impact Center
Founded in 2014 by Zion Baptist Church of Philadelphia, Called to Serve (CTS) is a non-profit developer focused on the renewal and revitalization of the Nicetown-Tioga communities in North Philadelphia. In collaboration with members of Zion Baptist Church and the Leon H. Sullivan CDC, CTS is spearheading the transformation of Zion Baptist Church’s historic Zion Annex into the Reverend Leon Sullivan Community Impact Center. On February 19, 2025, dozens gathered at Zion Baptist Church to celebrate the start of construction on the project, which will convert the former annex into a community center. Set to open in 2026, the center will become a hub for health, hope, and support for the community.
Victor Young, a Partner in Obermayer’s Litigation Department, played a key role in the project’s development through his leadership as a Trustee of Zion Baptist Church and board member of the Leon H. Sullivan CDC. Victor’s involvement in the Rev. Leon H. Sullivan Community Impact Center project is deeply personal, his father, the late Elmer Young Jr., was “Rev. Sullivan’s Administrative Assistant and” the project manager for the development of Progress Plaza.
Led by Rev. Mike Major and other partners, the $18 million project highlights the power of public-private partnerships in fostering equitable development. The new facility will feature a community arts center, café, bookstore, and house Temple University’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.
